After having the opportunity to participate in yet another parent meeting regarding a student's behavior, and listening once again to how the problem rests with me and the school (rather than the student and/or parent), I have decided to rewrite our suspension letter. Again, this is not real, no parent will be sent this letter! This is simply one teacher blowing off a little bit of steam in a slightly more appropriate manner than in my principal's office with a parent listening.
Dear Parent/Guardian of _________________________,
Congratulations! Your student, ____________________, came to school and did exactly what you taught him/her to do and not what the school and our instructors have taught. Since your instruction in this area has produced more results than ours, we have decided to provide you with extended time in which to continue your instruction. Your student will be at your disposal for ______ days. Please take advantage of this extra quality time with your student to work together on his/her behavior. If you do not appreciate the behavior your student is showing at home or during this time, please feel free to adjust your behavioral instruction as you feel necessary. We look forward to continuing our collaboration in your child's education on _____________________. Thank you for your contribution to your child's behavioral and academic education.
Sincerely,
Your student's school
